Free to Be Mindful FAQs

   Frequently Asked Questions

What are your counseling hours?

Free to Be Mindful hours are by appointment only - on weekdays and Sunday mornings. The summer schedule is Monday through Thursday with limited evening hours.

How much does each session cost?

The rate of individual sessions, group counseling sessions, and parent workshops all vary. Sessions are payable at the time of service. All major debit / credit cards are accepted.

Do you take insurance?

Free to Be Mindful is an out-of-network provider. Each session must be paid at the time of service. You are then provided with a superbill (fancy word for a receipt or invoice) for each session, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

It is highly recommend contacting your insurance provider before scheduling your first session and asking the following questions [for billing code #90834], as all providers have different requirements:

  • Does my policy cover mental health or behavioral health services?

  • Do I need a referral from my primary care physician to receive reimbursement for services?

  • What is the procedure for reimbursement of services with out-of-network providers?

  • What is my deductible? Has it been met?

  • Will I be reimbursed the full amount, or a percentage?

What is the time commitment for therapy?

Individual counseling sessions are 50 minutes. Group counseling sessions are 60 minutes. Initial intakes with parents (for child clients) and educational consultations with parents are both 90 minutes.

How long is the therapeutic process? That differs depending on each child and family. We begin meeting once a week. As treatment progresses and goals are accomplished, the frequency of sessions are modified.

Do you provide a free initial consultation?

Absolutely! It’s important for us both to have the opportunity to “meet” each other over the phone to see if we’re a good fit. If your child would like to "meet" before their first session, they can check out the Kids Only Page

If after 10-minute consultation we determine it may not work out, I am always happy and willing to provide referrals which may be better suited for your needs.
